Secretary-General Dr. Umar attended the 57th Session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in New York, where numerous legal texts to remove legal obstacles to international trade were adopted.
Marking a major reform in the field of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS), the statute of an advisory centre on international investment disputes was adopted in the second week of the Session. Once established and operational, the Centre is expected to provide crucial legal services in ISDS, including training and representation support with the aim of enhancing the capacity of States to prevent and handle international investment disputes, especially least developed countries and developing countries.
