J.D. Maged Mamdouh Kamel Shebaita, Secretary-General of the OIC-AC paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Lazar Comanescu, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) on 9 November 2023. The meeting took place at the BSEC premises in Istanbul. Nihan Çetin, LLM, Head of Marketing and Public Relations and Havva Nur Getiren, Legal Advisor, accompanied J.D.Kamel. Kanan Murtuzov, Executive Manager, accompanied Ambassador Comanescu.
J.D. Kamel expressed his gratitude to have the honour of meeting with Ambassador Comanescu. He stressed the establishment process, structure, jurisdiction area, vision, mission and values of the OIC-AC. He underlined that the OIC-AC was the first-ever international alternative dispute resolution (ADR) centre in Türkiye which had jurisdiction and know-how on the settlement of Islamic finance disputes. J.D. Kamel highlighted the increasing value of true neutrality on the part of the ADR centres in the face of the many economic and political challenges that affect global development.
Ambassador Comanescu elaborated on the role the BSEC region plays as a hub, based on its strategic location. He mentioned that the promotion of economy and trade was among the priorities of BSEC, and ADR centres played an important role in the advancement of the economy for one could not speak of business without arbitration.
The parties exchanged views on areas of mutual cooperation.
