Main Purpose of the Internship
The Legal Intern will support the Legal Department in its legal research, publications, institutional projects, events and administrative work.
The internship offers practical exposure to international arbitration and mediation, legal research, institutional publications and the work of an international dispute resolution institution.
Roles and Responsibilities
Legal Research and Publications
- Conduct research on international arbitration, mediation, commercial law, investment law and related legal developments.
- Assist in preparing case summaries, research notes and comparative analyses.
- Contribute to the Centre’s Quarterly Magazine and other institutional publications.
- Proofread and edit legal and institutional content.
- Arbitration and Mediation Rules
- Assist with comparative research on the rules and practices of international dispute resolution institutions.
- Support research concerning the Centre’s Arbitration and Mediation Rules, model clauses and procedural documents.
Events and Young OIC Arbitration Group
- Assist in organising webinars, training programmes, conferences and other institutional events.
- Support participant registration and communications with speakers, moderators and partner institutions.
- Prepare attendance lists, meeting notes, feedback forms and post-event summaries.
- Contribute to the activities of the Young OIC Arbitration Group.
Institutional Communications
- Assist in drafting event announcements, newsletters, website content and social media posts.
- Support the preparation of brochures, presentations and other communication materials.
- Translation and Document Preparation
- Provide Turkish–English and English–Turkish translation support.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing correspondence, reports, presentations and institutional documents.
- Support the preparation of meeting agendas, minutes and action lists.
Legal and Administrative Support
Assist with preliminary research relating to contracts and institutional legal matters.
Support the development and testing of the Centre’s electronic case management system.
Provide legal and administrative assistance to the Centre’s management and Legal Department as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a law degree programme at a recognised university, preferably in the third or fourth year of study.
- Good academic standing.
- Strong written and spoken proficiency in English and Turkish.
- Demonstrated interest in international arbitration, mediation, international law or commercial law.
- Good legal research, writing and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete assignments within established deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications
- Participation in moot court competitions, legal clinics, academic publications, student societies or research projects.
- Previous internship or volunteer experience involving legal research, event organisation or institutional communications.
- Knowledge of French or Arabic.
