The OIC-AC participated in the inaugural AlBaraka Istanbul Summit held from 24 to 25 May 2024.
The Summit featured thematic panels on the history of Islamic economics, Islamic economies in the global arena, the Islamic economy as an ethical economy, eco-systems in the context of the Islamic economy and its national and international impact, and the regulatory evolution of the Islamic economy.
The Summit’s keynote speeches, special addresses, and panel sessions focused on the transformative power of Islamic economics in reshaping the global economy. There was also a special workshop that explored the issue of the code of ethics for Islamic finance professionals.
Welcoming remarks at the soft opening were delivered by H.E. Yousef Khalawi, Secretary-General of Albaraka Forum for Islamic Economy, and a keynote speech by H.E. Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan, President of Ibn Haldun University.
The opening address of the Summit was delivered by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, and H.E. Abdullah Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Albaraka Forum for Islamic Economy greeted the audience with his welcoming remarks.
Secretary-General Dr. Oseni presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers of the fourth thematic panel held on the second day of the Summit. He spoke as a panellist about regulatory frameworks and legal structures for non-profit models in Islamic economics, with emphasis on zakat and waqf, at the fifth thematic panel. At the tail end of the Summit, Dr. Oseni co-facilitated a workshop on code of ethics for Islamic finance professionals.
The Summit titled “Global Prospects for Islamic Economics: Fundamentals and Needs” was organized by AlBaraka Forum for Islamic Economy in partnership with the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, the Istanbul Financial Center (IFC), the Türkiye Wealth Fund (TWF), Ibn Haldun University, and Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF). The Summit is expected to be an annual international event series focused on boosting the Islamic economic sector in Türkiye and beyond.
